Hiking & Biking to the Inn

 

From Mill Valley

Hike length: ~ 2 hours

Bike: ~ 90 minutes  (strenuous)

  • Park in, then hike from the town of Mill Valley.

  • On Street parking is limited.

  • Take West Blithedale Ave hike up the Railroad Grade to West Point Inn. You will be following the right-of-way for the Crookedest Railway in the world, including the Double Bow Knot loops.  

  • (Variation:  Near the top of the Double Bow Knot, take the Hoo Koo e Koo foot trail up to Matt Davis Trail, and then take the Nora Trail up to the Inn).

 
From Stinson Beach

Hike length: ~ 2 hours

  • Park in, then hike from the town of Stinson Beach.

  • Stinson Beach is located on Highway 1, .25 miles North of the intersection of Panoramic Highway.

  • Parking is free, and overnight parking is not permitted within the State Park.

  • From the Stinson Beach Community Center, adjacent to the Fire Station, hike up the Matt Davis Trail to the trail, then hike South on that trail to Pan Toll. Then follow the directions from Pan Toll.

 
From the Mountain Home Inn

Hike length: ~  1 hour  

Bike: ~ 45 minutes 

  • Park at, and then hike or bike from, the parking lot across the street from Mountain Home. Mountain Home is located on Panoramic Highway.

  • Parking is free, overnight parking is NOT permitted.

  • From the North side of Mountain Home, hike or bike up the paved road towards the Throckmorton Ridge Fire Station 0.1 miles. Veer to the right and follow the dirt road to West Point Inn. For most of this route, you will be following the right of way for the Crookedest Railway in the world, including the Double Bow Knot loops.

  • (Variation: Hikers may chose instead to continue on the paved road, up past the Fire Station, then hike West on the Matt Davis Trail to the Nora Trail, then up .5 miles to the Inn.)

 
From Pan Toll

Hike or Bike length: ~ 45 minutes (shortest, most level, and easiest route)

  • Park at, and then hike or bike from, the Pan Toll Ranger Station.

  • Pan Toll is located on Panoramic Highway, north of the Mountain Home, at the intersection of Pan Toll Road.

  • There is a day use fee to park, and overnight parking IS permitted.

  • The trail begins immediately across Panoramic Highway from the Pan Toll Ranger Station. Follow the  1.9 mile trail to West Point Inn. Only the first portion of the trail is paved. The remainder is an easy-grade dirt road up Old Stage Fire Road to the Inn.

 
From Boot Jack

This route is short, steep, and strenuous 

  • Boot Jack day use area is located on Panoramic Highway .25 miles East of Pan Toll.

  • There is a day use fee to park, and overnight parking IS permitted.

 
From Mountain Theater / Rock Springs

Hike length: ~ 45 minutes

  • Park at, then hike from Mountain Theater / Rock Springs.

  • Rock Springs parking lot is located on at the intersection of Pan Toll Road and Ridgecrest Blvd.

  • Mountain Theater is located .25 miles East on Ridgecrest Blvd.

  • Day use parking is free, and overnight parking is not permitted.

  • From the Mountain Home amphitheater, follow the dirt trail to West Point Inn.

 

From East Peak

Hike or Bike length: ~ 45 minutes

  • Park at, then hike or bike from East Peak.

  • The East Peak parking lot is located at the East end of Ridgecrest Blvd.

  • There is a day use fee to park, and overnight parking is not permitted.

  • From the East Peak parking lot, go West on Ridgecrest Blvd .25 miles to the gated dirt protection road. Follow that road down to West Point Inn.​
